Part 1 - Indigenous Dreamer

From ROSE: I would love for you to describe your life as a Dreamer... Maybe a post along the lines of 'A Night in the Life of...' Would love to hear about your experiences within your dreams and how it all works for you and what you do with it... What a great question! One that I plan to answer through two blog entries. ***** PART ONE. I recently read an article written by Dr. Peter Reznik (an expert on stress management) who said: “children start dreaming around the age of 3 years old.” I found the statement somewhat misleading especially since I remember quite vividly dreaming as early on as 6 months old. After having two children and empirically studying dreaming most of my life – I can vow without a shred of a doubt that children dream as early on as birth. Perhaps they can’t verbally share the dreams with us; but there’s no doubt they are dreaming. Like I’ve said in many other blog entries on the topic of dreaming: – Dreaming isn’t so much a trick of the mind a...

Dreaming one Baby Step at a Time!

Last week I had to meet my husband at the bank to sign some papers relating to the purchase of our new house. I remembered the two last times we bought a house and how nervous we were with our finances. This time it was completely different, I felt surprisingly relaxed and detached when the bank manager welcomed us at the door. She looked down at my foot and crutches, and gave me a wince as if to say: “ouch that must hurt, and I don’t know what to say.” I smiled and made my way to one of the chairs in her office. You could tell how uneasy or how uncomfortable this lady was. She struggled with breaking the ice; with getting to the point; with making basic business requests; and with putting an end to the exchange. She made basic mistakes like “repeating herself continuously” even after we stated: “Got it!” Or, ignoring our repetitive questions because she didn’t have the answers; or didn’t want to get herself in trouble somehow. She evidently wasn’t ready for our appointment beca...

Dream Walking.

BY TED JAUW. Here is Ted's new BLOG. http://surcadiana.blogspot.com/2012/03/rest-of-story.html Have been reading and rereading the blog entry, http://wapeyit.blogspot.com/ it's both informative and nicely written. I particularly enjoyed the Jack Palance reference. One of the things I noticed here (on FB) and in general is that people use popular terms like ' lucid dreaming' differently depending on where they learned it. Ofttimes these words have been coopted from sciences or spiritualities. It seems that new words need to be minted just so we don't have to unlearn what we already believe. My teacher called lucid dreaming, 'awake dreaming' and meant that one was aware and able to consciously go about. She also said that some could not only travel about in their 'own' dream but change and control the environment. 'Dream walking' is the word she would use to talk about the ability to go into other people's dreams and 'piggybac...

Blessed Dreamers!

Picture of Jack Palance -- in case some of you wonder who he is. Kristen started her question-message with the greeting: “Blessings Dreamers!” After reading her questions I was suddenly inspired to title this blog: “Blessed Dreamers!” Enjoy! ***** Blessings Dreamers! Excited to have been introduced to this community... My first post and question. Any insight would be appreciated! A few nights ago I had a dream~ was in a train, and someone I know was in cabin across the hall. There was a great storm outside my window that I felt compelled to show him, so I ran across and knocked. The man I know flung the door open startled, had a sleeping mask on his forehead and said, "don't ever do that again!” His reaction rattled me and I thought to myself "What? knock? I only knocked. Did I interrupt something?" He did end up coming across to see the storm outside my window (which wasn't there when he looked) then invited me in to his cabin where his fa...

Balancing with Beauty.

From my journal. I woke up this morning watching the sunrise in the horizon. The colors in the sky were mirrored on earth by the autumn trees. I found it incredible: Yellow, orange and red swallowing up the Full Moon of Reason (11th moon on the Wheel) and an infinity of stars. Thoughts and insights bubbled to the surface. For a moment I couldn’t tell the difference between my dreams, and the mix of thoughts and emotions moving through me. It was surely a moment of perfection. On the Medicine Wheel it’s the Moon of Drama (3rd moon), which teaches us about the wisdom of beauty. I remember learning this lesson through my daughter. At three years old, she imitated a myriad of people, things and situations. KT loved the way I talked on the phone. Soon she had my mannerisms memorized and was showing me how I looked when I did my babbling... By watching my toddler copy the world around her, I was able to learn more about her and about what she loves out of life. As they say: “...

Kate's Dream.

On our Facebook site, Medicine Wheel and Indigenous Dreaming - I came across this dream and this request from Kate. In response I promised her I’d write a short blog discussing the GENIUS of the dreaming. FROM KATE: Ok, I've got one for you...

I was lying in bed on one side of Mr. Miyagi (of the Karate Kid movies.) There were two other women on his other side. I got up to go put on a black bikini so that I could have sex with him. After I entered the first room in order to change my clothes, someone came in. So I found another place where I could change in private. Then I was in a room putting small menagerie type toy animals (like a pegasus with no front legs) into a box. But the box was also like a book. Each section/page had a few chess pieces in it. I would add a few animals, that belonged to my friend, then I would turn the "page" and open the next area which contained a few more chess pieces and add some more animals.

Help me out with this one! PLEASE! ☺ ...

AURA.

Have you ever heard of auras? I’ll be honest as much as I can see and interact with the dead, I’m hugely sceptical about lots of what is discussed within the New Age movement. It doesn’t mean I don’t believe in many of the concepts but I often draw the line when information is being shared as fact and isn’t connected to anything remotely empirical. Strangely enough I like the “supernatural or paranormal reality” to be something logical, rational and practical. I like it to make sense. I see no reason to explore an ability that I can’t use in my daily living or that doesn’t in some shape or form enhance my understanding of life. Earlier on in my journey, I was not attracted to the idea of auras mostly because information on the topic focused on definition (colors emanating from the chakra system of the human body) or it centered on interpreting colors. I’ve always found that interpretations are highly subjective and aside from contributing some confirmation and sometimes even ...

Why do some people struggle with dreaming?

The big question these days on our Facebook site Medicine Wheel and Indigenous dreaming is: “Why do some people have a difficulty to dream?” There’s more than one answer to that question depending on the perspective we take. It would be incredibly easy to say that all those people who don’t have the dreamer role on their personal Medicine Wheel would find dreaming a challenge. The fact of the matter is this answer is actually accurate but does it explain how dreaming works and why one would find dreaming difficult without the dreamer role? Where most people understand the Medicine Wheel as an esoteric concept there are some who abide by this ancient science still today. It’s rare that you’ll find me talking about the brain when it comes to dreaming. From a sacred circle perspective there’s more than one physiological element that plays in the process of dreaming and each one plays a distinct role. It’s no different than working with our personal roles on our sacred circle (fire...

Hypnagogia

I’ve been working on this particular blog entry for a little over two weeks. I’ve been exploring the topic of “hypnagogia” for a very long time; but recently DEB informed me that it was the “in thing these days” and that people were using this “dream technique” to practice shape shifting. For starters hypnagogia isn’t so much as a dream technique as it is a step in the process of dreaming. As for being helpful in shape shifting – I find the idea fascinating; but I remain somewhat skeptical towards the hopeful, expected end results. Have you ever heard of hypnagogia? It refers to the moment just before you fall asleep. If you pay attention you’ll notice that just as you are about to fall asleep the mind randomly feeds us with a series of images, colors and sounds. I’ve even notice different flavors as well. Basically it refers to when the mind is shutting down; getting ready for sleep; and literally empties itself of all kinds of impressions. I’ve practiced hypnagogia for over...

The Dreaming Phenomenon

I’ve always been a strong dreamer. I’m sure I’ve mentioned in earlier blog entries when talking about dreaming, that I can easily recall dreams dating back to infancy and early childhood. More often than not my dreams are similar to daily living experiences. I’m a lucid dreamer. Many mornings I need a few minutes before I can adjust to waking reality. I’ve had times where I’m a bit disoriented. I’ve often wondered which one of me is the real ME: The dreaming me or the waking me. It seems that my dreamer self has a life of her own. I’ve often felt like she had her own path and purpose; her own destiny. She knows people I have never met before; visited countries that I’ve never traveled to; and has a personality that can often make me blush. Amazingly HER LIFE can be verified and shows no discrepancies with waking reality. For example when I was 18 years old I dreamt I went to Paris, France. I remember driving through the city and stopping at the cleaners to pick up my boyfrien...

Attitude and Gratitude.

I’m a people watcher. My husband and I will go to the mall sometimes just to sit and watch shoppers. 20 years from now, we’ll be the only older couple in the park who doesn’t keep an eye on the pigeons. All kidding aside, my husband and I have found that lots of our major discoveries and attitude changes came from watching people behave and interact. It’s amazing how much you can learn just by listening. Remember as I often say: “Listening isn’t only about what moves through the ears.” It’s about being present to your environment with all 6 of your senses. Recently G and I went out for a walk with Bella and JC (our trainer). On our journey around our neighbourhood we met up with a woman and her 2 year old son. On asphalt, this lady was literally dragging the boy on a plastic sleigh. The screeching sounds showed it wasn’t a smooth ride. The pebbles and mud were splashing over the child’s winter attire (he kept his eyes closed the whole way) and the woman’s red cheeks were mor...
